US Infected: 1,866,916 Dallas Infected: 11,777 Texas Deaths: 1,700
This past week has been unprecedented crazy. In addition to all the Coronavirus mess, now the country is in turmoil. Riots have broken out all over the US in response to the unjust murder of a man named Floyd George. Peaceful protests about the abuse of police brutality against black people have turned ugly and have been ravaging major cities all over the US. It is truly heartbreaking on so many levels.
I find it is very easy to get bogged down in the midst of all this chaos, so I have been trying really hard to find things that bring me joy. Swimming in the pool brings me a whole lot of joy. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a Pisces, or if it’s just my wiring, but I literally feel at ease when my body is in the water. I can spend hours floating or swimming or just being in the pool. One of my favorite things to do is to float on my back and watch the clouds and birds fly by.
Another one of my escapes is reading. I bought the Kindle Unlimited so I can get as many books as I want every month (as long as they are on the Kindle Unlimited list). I read a bit of everything. Sometimes I read historical fiction, sometimes I read sci-fi, sometimes I read modern romance, and sometimes (not as often) I will pick up a piece of classic literature that I have yet to read. I guess it’s an escape for me, because it forces my overactive brain to enter someone else’s world for awhile.
Yesterday, I found a new joy. My son just bought himself an HTC Vive Cosmos Elite. If you don’t know what this is, it is a Virtual Reality headset that connects to a PC. I am not a big fan of Virtual Reality. I tried several times to play on the Playstation 4 VR, but I found myself getting motion sickness. So, it was no big surprise that I was not too enthusiastic about trying out the Vive. (s)Tinker is persistent though, and eventually I gave in and strapped myself into the headset. A couple of thoughts went through my head as I waited for him to load me into the program. 1. I look like a complete idiot wearing this headset and standing in the center of the room waiting for something to happen. 2. This headset is heavy and it wouldn’t take me very long before my old whiplash angry neck would be screaming. 3. My eyesight is screwy.

So eventually he got me into the program, and I found myself standing in a museum of art. In front of me was a welcome desk with maps, and I could hear the cheerful noise of a crowd of visitors in an echoing lobby. The game instructed me to pick up a map, and once I figured out how to move by teleportation, I was off to enjoy a tour of the museum. In the main lobby, I found myself standing next to a 20 foot tall sculpture of David. It was phenomenal! I could look at it from every side, and every chiseled angle was apparent. Then, I walked over to look at the iconic Mona Lisa. Again, you could see every brush stroke! You could move up so close to it, that if you were there, you could touch the canvas. I was truly in awe. From the casket of Amenhotep to the cool colors of Monet’s water lilies, I explored every inch of the 2 story museum. Every work had a description and told where the original was housed. It was fabulous and a true escape for me!

In other news, I picked the first plums off my new trees. I ate one, and there is nothing as sweet as fruits and vegetables that you’ve grown yourself! I also had a great couple of calls with my parents…a morning Face time chat over morning coffee on the patio, and a group call with my entertaining brother and my parents. Trying to recall our past had us all in stitches. So much fun!
So there you have it. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Fortunate for me, I seem to have found enough good to overshadow the other two. Hope you can find some goodness this week too!
