US Infected: 2,787,038 Dallas Infected: 24.996 Texas Deaths: 2,541
The ancient Greeks and Romans called them the “dog days of summer”. This was when Sirius (aka. the dog star) was closest to the sun, and these were the hottest days of the year. This year, it’s yet another “plague” to endure as we sit home with the virus lurking outside our homes. This week in Dallas, we are on our third day of heat advisory, and it looks like this entire week will be deadly heat indexes here in North Texas. Another perfect storm of conditions, we have high heat WITH high humidity which makes it feel like we are around 110 F today. In the coming week, Dallas will feel hotter that Death Valley, California. (Oh joy!)
The news about the Corona virus is not good today. A report from the CDC has basically said that there is no way we will be able to minimize the damage anymore here in the US. The COVID-19 virus has spread so much that there is nothing we can do to mitigate the outcome. It really is infuriating. Selfishness and refusal to try to prevent the virus from spreading is going to cause many more deaths. The worst is still ahead of us.
Surviving the Plagues
I’m not sure if my “blah-ness” is because of the heat, or because of increased allergies. With all the dust in the air from the Sahara dust storm, I’m suffering! I’m just sick of being cooped up all the time. But I’m guessing it’s likely a combination of the three. I wake up daily and force myself to accomplish a few tasks each day. Then, I find myself gravitating back to the couch to play Animal Crossing or binge watch Ertugrul on Netflix. I keep trying to impose limits on myself, like not playing any games before 3 pm and going to bed by 10:30. However, I’m still being such a lazy lima bean that I’m embarrassed to admit it!
Another “fun” part of my life these days is trying to force myself to go through the tons of shoved paperwork. I like to keep things that will be nice memories, but in the chaos we have shoved stuff and I have my own paper Everest to conquer.
Becoming the Family Hairdresser
Tonight I will be dying Sunshine’s hair. We started bleaching it last week, but her hair is such a dark black that it only lightened it to a brown. Hopefully, this time it will accomplish the blonde look she’s hoping for. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I’d be playing hairdresser for my family. I have now cut everyone’s hair except my own, and now I’m official colorist for the Princessa!
All in all, life is pretty good. Although I have the blahs, it’s not all bad. We have our health and we have each other, so I really cannot complain. Plus, the banana trees are loving this tropical heat! Happy July everyone!
